Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and about one in eight men will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime. A prostate MRI scan with Vista Health can detect prostate gland abnormalities, leading to the early diagnosis of conditions including cancer.
We offer fast, affordable access to private prostate MRI scans at locations across the country, with reports and images available within three working days of your scan.
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, a way of taking pictures inside the body using magnetic fields and radio waves. A private MRI prostate scan uses the technique to focus on the prostate gland and the surrounding structures. It’s a safe, painless and non-invasive procedure.
Prostate MRI is used for the detection, evaluation and diagnosis of cancer and other conditions. Unlike X-rays and CT scans, MRI prostate doesn’t expose the patient to radiation.
Prostate MRI is intended for men aged 40 and above. Prostate cancer is closely associated with age, but there may be additional reasons for getting checked out - for example if you have a family history of prostate cancer, you’re worried about elevated PSA levels, or you’ve had an abnormal rectal exam. Urinary issues, including an unexplained, frequent need to go to the toilet, might also cause concern.
Prostate MRI is highly effective in identifying potential cancerous abnormalities within the prostate gland, enabling the recognition of suspicious regions that may need additional evaluation or biopsy.
The scan can detect a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, which could lead to urinary symptoms.
A lesion is an irregular region, mark, or growth that could indicate the presence of infection, inflammation or prostate cancer.
A prostate MRI can also assess the bladder, rectum, colon, seminal vesicles, and pelvic bone marrow for any irregularities or abnormalities.
A multi-parametric prostate MRI (mpMRI) uses contrast dye and provides the most detailed imaging.
A bi-parametric prostate MRI (bpMRI) does not use contrast and is typically used as an initial assessment scan.
