What can a full-body MRI scan can tell you?

A full-body scan could show you’re in good health, giving you reassurance and helping you to plan a healthy future lifestyle. If there is a potential problem, the scan could identify a disease or condition at an early stage, contributing to effective treatment and a positive outcome.

  • Head and brain

Your scan can identify many pathologies if they’re present, including brain tumours, evidence of a stroke or infarction, bleeds, white matter changes, and any presence of aneurysms.

  • Abdomen and pelvis

Your full-body scan will look at major organs including the liver, kidneys, pancreas and spleen, identifying any abnormalities such as tumours, lesions, and masses.

  • Spine

The spine is scanned in two parts, upper and lower. The scan accesses the intravertebral and the spinal cord, recognising degenerative changes, disc herniation and prolapse, facet joint degeneration, any spine cord lesions, or masses such as meningiomas.

  • Heart

Your cardiac MRI scan will assess the function and anatomy of your heart, looking for wall motion abnormalities, valve abnormalities and evidence of hypertrophy and myocardial infarction.

FAQs

Your questions answered

If you’re about to begin a healthcare journey including a full-body MRI scan, you’re likely to have a few questions. We’ve tried to answer the most common queries here - but if you don’t find what you’re looking for, you can always ask one of our friendly advisors.

We accept self-referral in most cases. We also offer a GP consultation service to provide you with a referral if you need one.

How much will full-body scans cost?

We offer several packages, starting at £1,500, with some optional add-ons. You can spread the cost over three months, interest free.

Does a full-body MRI scan cover the entire body?

No. The standard full-body MRI scan covers the brain, the abdominal area, the pelvis and the entire spine - key areas where there can be health concerns. Our Platinum Package adds heart screening. You can add other parts of the body - such as prostrate or limbs - at an additional cost.

Can I pay for a full-body MRI scan?

Yes. By choosing a private full-body MRI scan from Vista Health, you can access advanced diagnostic technology without the wait often associated with such services. You can spread the cost over three, interest-free monthly payments.

Can I have a full-body MRI scan even if I don’t currently have symptoms?

Yes. A full-body scan can provide reassurance that all is well, and help you plan a healthy future lifestyle.

Can you help me understand my results?

If you’d like to discuss your scan results with one of our GPs, you can arrange a consultation. There’s a 20% discount on consultation fees if you book when you arrange your scan.

Where can I have a full-body MRI scan?

We offer full-body MRI scans at our larger locations across the UK, including Waterloo, Holborn, Nottingham, Ealing, Croydon, Golders Green, Eastbourne, Greater Manchester, Nottingham, North Tyneside, Norwich, Milton Keynes, Merseyside, Leeds, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Hull, Sheffield and Shrewsbury.

How long do full-body scans take?

A full-body scan takes roughly 60 - 90 minutes. We ask you to arrive around 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

What does a full-body MRI scan detect?

The scans give an excellent overview of the areas covered.

  • Brain MRI - This will demonstrate many pathologies if present; including brain tumours, evidence of a stroke or infarction, bleeds, white matter changes and any presence of aneurysms.

  • Abdomen and Pelvis MRI - This will look at the major organs, such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas and spleen, as well as the prostate in men and the uterus in women. This will identify any abnormalities within these areas, such as tumours, lesions, and masses.

  • MRI spine - The spine is scanned in two parts, the upper and lower. The spine MRI is excellent for accessing the intravertebral and spinal cord, and will recognise degenerative changes, disc herniation and prolapse, facet joint degeneration, any spine cord lesions or masses such as meningiomas.

  • Cardiac MRI - A cardiac MRI will assess the function and anatomy of the heart, looking for wall motion abnormalities, valve abnormalities, evidence of hypertrophy and myocardial infarction.

Can I refer myself for an MRI?

We accept self-referral in most cases. We also offer a GP consultation service to provide you with a referral if you need one
